John Newman Q&A with students

Chart-topping platinum-selling Leeds singer John Newman comes ‘back to school’ to launch his new book, and take questions from LCoM students.

Songwriter and musician John Newman returns to Leeds College of Music on Tuesday 20 October for a special event to launch his new book ‘Revolve: The Book’. John, who studied a BTEC National Diploma in Pop Music and went on to have his first number one single ‘Feel The Love’ in 2012, comes back for a lunchtime session, to answer questions from students and fans.

John’s rapid rise through the ranks of pop to platinum selling artist has seen him work with globally renowned producers and EDM artists, writing and arranging music, and taking inspiration from his Leeds roots in the city’s Northern Soul and Motown scene. His first solo album, ‘Tribute’, entered the UK Album chart at No.1, his single ‘Love Me Again’ sold over 3 million copies worldwide, achieving a No.1 spot on iTunes in a massive 33 countries, and his sales went platinum in ten countries, three times in Australia.

“The main reason I have written this book is because I want people to know the process behind making my second album” John said “I fight every day to show people what I see inside my head, my vision and what I want to create”.

Following his journey from Leeds to Los Angeles where he recorded second album ‘Revolve’, ‘Revolve: The Book’ documents the incredible creative process behind both John’s new album and past hits. In a first person account of his life and career so far, it includes exclusive photography of the making of Revolve and the release of his past number one single ‘Love Me Again’ and album ‘Tribute’. Filled with souvenirs from across the years, song lyrics scrawled on the backs of envelopes, gig posters and more, the book is a beautiful showcase of John’s life and career so far, and hints at the music that is still to come.

‘Revolve’ has been described as the sound of heartbreak, new love, freedom, excitement and soul, and is John’s guide to all that and more. “He has become one of the most exciting performers and songwriters of his generation.” said songwriter and producer Calvin Harris.

The event will be live streamed by LCoM, and on John's Facebook page.

‘Revolve: The Book’ is published by Quadrille on 18 October (£18.99) and will be available at the Q&A event.
