Coming soon: Leeds International Festival

Leeds is set to welcome a new, ambitious and exciting cultural festival to its events calendar this spring: say hello to Leeds International Festival (LIF), which takes place from April 22nd-30th. The festival will focus on three main strands – Music, Moving Image and Technology, showcasing the best of what Leeds has to offer.

As part of the music offering, LCoM Jazz alumni Nubiyan Twist launch their new single Dance Inna London in an event presented by legendary Leeds-based promoters, Soul Rebels. The 12 piece hip-hop/jazz collective will play at The Wardrobe on Friday 28th April, with support from current LCoM students, experimental jazz trio Skwid Ink.

Saturday 29th April sees the 11th outing of Live at Leeds, winner of the UK Festival Award for Best Metropolitan Festival. The festival includes live performances, an Unconference (Friday 28th April, at Leeds College of Music), workshops and industry events across the week.

Alongside headliners Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, Slaves and Wild Beasts, the eclectic programme includes solid representation across LCoM alumni and students, including Kell, Heir, The Golden Age of TV, Howl and Dusk, to name just a few.

LIF will also celebrate future trends and the evolution of technology in Leeds, including the innovative one-day conference “Empowering Women In Tech” which features talks from industry leaders Lauren Laverne, Susie Bubble and Emmy Lovell.

The tech strand will also offer Leeds Digital Job Fair, the launch of an exciting new experience from Tick Tock Unlock at Trinity Leeds, a huge Hey! Conference, conversations about Cyber Security and a brand-new family event called Make, Believe – Inventing the Tech of the Future.

The Moving Image offering will see the screening of two premieres: “Do You Want To Win?” a special documentary on Leeds United and the latest instalment in the Music in Leeds film series, produced by The City Talking and the BBC.

Alongside music, moving image and technology, the festival will provide fashion and food-related fringe events, linking into new cultural projects like Fashion in Leeds and Leeds Indie Food.
