BBC Music Day 2016

Brass Bonanza

BBC Music Day returns bigger and better this year, with Duran Duran and Laura Mvula live at Eden, Travis and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in concert, live music at 40 iconic bridges, and unique musical celebrations across the UK including a vegetable orchestra led by Shaun the Sheep.

And as part of the national BBC Music Day 2016, Leeds will be celebrating its great music and musicians. From noon on Friday June 3rd, City Centre spaces are going to be filled with ensembles, bands and groups featuring brass instruments, before getting to together in City Square at 3pm for a final celebration.

And we want you to be part of the celebration!

If you’ve got a brass band, an orchestra, a jazz group or a funk outfit, let us know. The groups need not be exclusively brass – any groups where brass instruments are featured will be most welcome, and we’ll even allow the odd saxophone.

Leeds has a glorious tradition of music from classical to jazz to chart-topping indie and rock, and a fantastic future, and BBC Music Day will bring our music, and other UK City’s music, to the wider world.

"Having music in your life gives you a layer of confidence and curiosity that enables you to live a better life. BBC Music Day is important to me because I think we live in a more chaotic world than ever before and music is something that can genuinely bring us together, so a day to celebrate that is fantastic." – Jamie Cullum.
