LCoM at Live At Leeds 2013

About Live at Leeds

Live at Leeds is a metropolitan music festival held annual across a variety of venues in Leeds on the first Bank Holiday weekend of May.

The ethos has always been to celebrate the best in upcoming local bands alongside more established national acts. Over the past six years, we’ve had the likes of Mumford&Sons, Ed Sheeran, The Maccabees, Jake Bugg, Hurts, Bombay Bicycle Club and Pulled Apart By Horses grace the Live at Leeds stages.

The Festival this year features a huge programme of gigs and music inspired events. And, as always, Leeds College of Music will be taking an active part in the weekend. Here’s how we’ll be getting involved:

The Unconference

How has the digital age transformed the music industry and what opportunities does it present? These are some of the questions that The Unconference – which kicks off the Live at Leeds weekend on 3 May – aims to answer.

A unique take on the archetypal 'music industry seminar', The Unconference will take over The Venue at Leeds College of Music from 10am on 3 May, with practical advice on cracking the music industry from a squad of experienced professionals in discussion seminars and workshops. Tickets are free (and being snapped up fast).

The day ends with The Unconference's customary listening panel, where  bands and artists submit their music to be discussed by a panel of experts – giving practical advice on recording, releasing and getting exposure. This is a great chance for our students to submit their music in a forum that has in the past attracted attention from managers, labels and journalists as well as from other attendees and acts at The Unconference.

To submit your music to the panel send a link and some background information to unconference@liveatleeds.com with the subject: LISTENING PANEL

Curated by whiskas (¡Forward, Russia!, Dance To The Radio, IMGNTN) and supported by Leeds Metropolitan University & Leeds Inspired, the focus this year will be around networking and the landscape of music consumption in the digital landscape.

Guests confirmed so far include:

  • Mark Mulligan (Midia Consulting, Music Industry Blog)

LCoM @ LAL

As well as hosting and taking part in the Live At Leeds Unconference, you’ll be able to  find some of our students milling around at various venues, taking in the music, making video blogs and chatting to the crowd to get your opinions on the Leeds music scene.

They’ll be wearing LCoM hoodies and t-shirts and so will be easy for you to spot if you want to grab them to chat.

Keep an eye on our Twitter to see our coverage of Live At Leeds, and to access our post-festival video footage.
